I remember our first trip to Playa del Carmen and walking down 5th avenue seeing all this advertising for ‘CoCo Bongo’ and wondering what the heck is ‘CoCo Bongo’? Frankly it sounded like something I’d say to someone who was acting silly, “Are you coco bongo”?
All joking aside, it didn’t take long to find out that it’s one of Playa (and Cancun’s) hottest nightclubs that takes a rock concert, circus and acrobatic show and rolls it all into one. A type of ‘Cirque du Soleil’ if you will. It’s commonly referred to as “Las Vegas Meets Mexico”!
On any given night you could be watching live performances and impersonators from Elvis to Madonna to Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga take the stage. Dazzling stage shows like The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman, and Moulin Rouge light up the stage bringing magic and energy to the night!
CoCo Bongo pulsates with high-tech video screens, professional dancers, brilliant costumes, acrobats, orchestrated lighting, confetti, fog sprays, and streamers to create a thrilling and adrenaline-like atmosphere. Add in DJ’s mixing sounds of the 70’s, 80’s, rock & roll, salsa, dance, trance, hip hop and rave which really gets the place thumping. Frankly you just have to see it to believe it! It’s a major feast for the eyes and the ears!
Coco Bongo has been featured in many travel related TV shows, and is rated one of the hottest night clubs in Latin America by MTV and applauded by Rolling Stone and Billboard Magazine. Not too shabby!
Note to self: make sure you purchase your tickets in advance, otherwise you can be in line waiting up to an hour since it gets crowded quickly. CoCo Bongo also offers the option of cover charge only, or all-you-can-drink fee with open bar.
