Happy summer everyone! I am happy to report I have just returned from the most fabulous trip to Playa del Carmen. (Who am I kidding, every trip to Playa is fabulous!) The weather was perfect for our entire stay with only one day of rain, and on that rainy day we sat out on our covered balcony and played cards. And since I’ve been home it’s been a mix of cloud and rain. Aw, tartar sauce!
Playa is changing all the time and depending on your point of view, some of the changes are positive and some not so positive with ongoing construction and new stores and malls going up all the time. But one thing for sure, there’s always something new to explore for ‘PLAYA -Gal’!
So this blog is dedicated to the things that I really love about Playa in no particular order. (Stay tuned for part 2).
·Fruit Cart Ladies – they prepare fresh cups of fruit daily (watermelon, papaya, pineapple, orange etc) for a few pesos & served with a smile.
·The breakfast at Playa Maya on the beach served by Juan (on the beach, between 6 & 8th avenue) He makes a mean mimosa too (smile!)
·The gorgeous sunrises & sunsets on the beach at Luna Encantada
·The private loungers, umbrellas & beach service at Luna Encantada
·The fresh tasty guacamole made right at your table at Los Rancheros (2 locations -one on 5th avenue & 6th street, and one by the ferry on Juarez)
·The marimba and mariachi bands that perform nightly at Los Rancheros
·The fresh squeezed fruit juices and smoothies at 100% Natural (on 5th ave & 12 street)
Chez Celine
·Two French bakeries: Chez Celine which offers both breakfast & lunch with a wonderful wine & sparkling wine list (on 5th ave. & 34th street) and Café Antoinette (a new little gem with excellent coffee & croissants) found near the ferry on Juarez
·Free pool (billiards) along with excellent fries & cold beer at Muza (same owner as Fusion) located near the beach on 8th street
·Kristine’s Spa & Salon (excellent pedi/manis & massage) located in Playacar near Juarez & 10th (just past the ferry)
·The yummy fresh pizza at Romeo’s Italian Restaurant (located on Calle 4 between 10 & 15th ave)
·The gorgeous roof-top lounge at The Palm at Playa Hotel on 8th Street between 5th & 10th avenue
·The beach BBQ served at Indigo Beach Club from 2pm-6pm. (On the beach at 12th avenue)
·The beautiful fresh tropical flowers you can pick up at Floreria Iris located across from DAC on 30th avenue & 30th street for only 50 pesos that makes your condo shine! (Near MEGA grocery store)
·Want to taste the best BBQ chicken in Playa? Then head to El Pechugon
corner of Juarez & 10th avenue) where they flame grill the chicken on a rotating spit. Baby potatoes are roasted under the drippings of the grilled chicken. Talk about a party in your mouth! A take-out meal can be had for around 70 pesos and it’s a huge serving!
This is just a little taste of the things I love about Playa. Stay tuned for part 2!
