Hola amigos! I was so busy living the good life in Playa del Carmen on summer vacation I was a bit behind on my blogs, so here goes!
Summer in Playa is a special experience. It’s pretty well guaranteed hot and sunny almost every day with the odd thunderstorm blowing through on occasion to keep things lush and green.
Playa is a fun place to explore, and just when I think I’ve seen it all, I find a new little spot that becomes a favorite.
For those of you who enjoy an alcoholic beverage, you will enjoy La Europea; an upscale wine and spirits store on calle 8th, just mere steps off 5th. It carries a huge selection of wine, liquors, liquers, Champagne, Prosecco and beer.
What adds to its charm and appeal, is they also have a deli inside the store offering a selection of tasty local and imported cheeses, deli meats, including ham imported from Spain, packaged snacks, cocktail items, crackers, pastas, olive oils and antipasto. They also offer freshly baked baguettes and other tasty baked goodies. They sure make it easy for one-stop shopping!
I am happy to report that they are not overpriced and from my comparison to Walmart & MEGA’s booze stock, they are right in line or close to equal in price. Although I would suggest you buy your mix (margarita mix, soda etc. ) at the grocery stores as I did notice they were higher in price at La Europea.
And it’s very well stocked for international wine; you could easily spend an hour or so perusing their wine racks. Broke your wine glass at the condo? Well they sell those too along with brandy snifters as well.
We bought a Chilean merlot to accompany our grilled dinner that we BBQ’d on our rooftop terrace at Luna Encantada. Beautiful views, beautiful accommodations, beautiful food and now beautiful wine courtesy of La Europea. Common denominator…beautiful.
